Free Writing Friday

Hello Friends!

I apologize for the big gap between posts the past few weeks – I had surgery at the beginning of October and the recovery process is no joke! Still getting back to feeling like my normal self, and that could take a lot of time, but I wanted to pop in with another Free Writing Friday post to kick things off again.

I had a birthday in August and some dear friends signed me up for a subscription to Scribbler. If you don’t know, Scribbler is a writing subscription box that is super amazing. It usually includes a book, a pamphlet written by the same author on a writing theme (Setting, Character, Worldbuilding, etc.) and other lovely goodies.

In each box, they include a postcard with a prompt for a writing contest. You’re able to submit your response to the prompt via social media in order to win a prize! I missed the deadline for the one for October, so I’m using that as my prompt for today. Feel free to use the prompt in your own writing as well. It’s short and sweet, but a fun exercise.

Prompt: Write a short paragraph starting with the sentence, “The money is good, there’s no denying that…”

The money is good, there’s no denying that, but how do you put a dollar amount on the cost of your soul? Sure, being an assassin for hire is a lucrative career — someone’s got to pull the trigger, drag the knife, pour the poison — but as your soul shrinks and shrinks and your bank account grows and grows, you have to ask yourself if it’s all worth it.
